2002 SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) are agencies of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of CDC is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease,injury and disability. The mission of ATSDR is to prevent exposure and adverse human health effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure to hazardous substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other sources of pollution present in the environment.
The Summer Student Employment Program is a temporary hiring program which is designed to give students valuable and challenging work experience and encourage them to explore career opportunities in the public health arena. The goals of the Program are: * To attract and hire students to CDC and ATSDR and provide opportunities that will encourage them to pursue careers in Science and Public Health. * To attract and hire students of diverse backgrounds and heritages that are reflective of the Nation's diversity including persons with disabilities. Salary: Students are paid based upon the duties of the position and the individual's education and experience. Housing: Student hires are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. They are also responsible for all expenses related to housing and other expenses. Location: The majority of the positions are in Atlanta, Georgia.

Who may apply: The Summer Student Employment Program is limited to students (i.e. those that are currently enrolled in a degree or certificate seeking program taking at least a part-time course load). King County Managing Engineer Department of Transportation / Road Services Division Engineering Services Section / Environmental Services King County's Department of Transportation (KCDOT) is seeking an experienced and visionary Managing Engineer for the County's Department of Transportation Road Services Division. KCDOT is a large agency requiring a diversified workforce of employees with a wide range of skills who are dedicated to providing high quality public service.
The position is located in downtown Seattle. Overview The King County Department of Transportation is committed to helping people travel around the region. Serving 1.6 million people in an area covering more than 2,000 square miles, the department * Provides all county residents bus service, paratransit, carpool assistance, vanpools and other alternatives to driving alone. * Creates programs and facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists and horseback riders. * Works with other jurisdictions and organizations to plan our transportation investments. * Designs, builds, operates and maintains roads and bridges in the county's unincorporated areas. * Provides vehicles, equipment, maintenance and supplies to all King County departments. KCDOT has about 5,000 employees who provide a wide range of transportation services to the people who live, work, shop, play or travel in King County.
In addition, the department works with 35 cities within the county and with many subregional, regional and state groups. The Road Services Division designs, builds, operates and maintains roads, bridges and pathways in unincorporated areas of King County. The Division is responsible for 1,907 miles of roadway, 222 bridges, 86 miles of unpaved roads and many pathways in unincorporated areas of King County.
Besides providing safe roadways, Road Services strives for cost-efficient, high-quality service and environmentally responsible project design, maintenance and operation. The division strives to make the county's transportation system safe and efficient for all uses and modes of travel. The Environmental Unit of the Division's Engineering Section provides specialized support/expertise requiring environmental, scientific, engineering, planning, regulatory and financial disciplines related to engineering design, construction, maintenance and/or environmental concerns.
